Carry out primary, selective isolation of extended-spectrum-beta-lactamase producing Enterobacteriaceae in qualitative procedures with InMicro® Prepared: VACC Agar (With Vancomycin Amphotericin B, Ceftazidime, and Clindamycin).
Extended Spectrum β Lactamases are enzymes capable of conferring bacterial resistance to penicillins, cephalosporins, and aztreonam by hydrolysis of these antibiotics . Production of ESBLs is a significant resistance-mechanism that impedes the antimicrobial treatment of infections caused by Enterobacteriaceae and is a serious threat to the currently available antibiotic armory.
The medium can facilitate earlier identification of colonized patients and can help reduce the cost of surveillance screening.
In a study conducted from 2000 to 2005, there were 17,872 inpatients screened for rectal colonization with ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae. The colonization rate doubled during this study4.During the same study cited above, 8.5% of colonized patients developed a subsequent bloodstream infection. Surveillance screening is useful for infection control and antimicrobial stewardship in controlling the proliferation of ESBL-producing bacteria. The use of VACC Agar can facilitate earlier identification of colonized patients and can help reduce the cost of surveillance screening.
Manufactured at a cGMP-compliant facility under the ISO 13485 standard, ensuring high-quality manufacturing standards, consistency, and reliability for both research and industrial settings.
