Overview

Isolate and cultivate pathogenic yeast and molds from clinical specimens with InMicro® Prepared: Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (Emmons) prepared media plates. Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (Emmons) is a modification of the original medium developed by Sabouraud in 1892. Emmons neutralized the pH, increasing it to 7.0, and reduced the concertation of dextrose from 40 to 20 g/L.

Use InMicro® Prepared: Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (Emmons) for primary isolation and cultivation of pathogenic yeasts and molds from clinical specimens.

  • Suitable for isolation of pathogenic fungi from a material containing a large amount of other fungi or bacteria.
  • Ready prepared convenience of prepared media.

Casein and meat peptones supply nitrogenous compounds and amino acids necessary for the growth of fungi. Dextrose is an energy source that supports the growth of fungi. Chloramphenicol and gentamicin are broad-spectrum antibiotics which inhibit a range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Cycloheximide is inhibitory to rapidly growing saprophytic fungi that could overgrow slow-growing primary pathogens. Penicillin is active against Gram-positive bacteria. Streptomycin inhibits Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
