Isolate anaerobic gram-negative, non-spore-forming bacilli with InMicro® Prepared: Anaerobic PV (Paromomycin, Vancomycin) Blood Agar.
Formulated by V.R. Dowell and T.M Hawkins, Anaerobic Blood Agar supports the growth and typical pigmentation of fastidious, slow-growing and other clinically important anaerobes.
Isolate fastidious, obligately anaerobic non-spore-forming gram-negative bacilli using the solid medium InMicro® Prepared: Anaerobic KV Blood Agar with paromomycin and vancomycin.
- Selective: Paromomycin and vancomycin antibiotics inhibit facultative and aerobic gram-negative rods.

Anaerobic Blood Agar base contains peptones that supply nitrogenous substances and amino acids necessary to grow anaerobic bacteria. Yeast extract provides B-complex vitamins and serves as a growth enhancer. Hemin, vitamin K and sheep blood stimulate the growth of anaerobes. Sodium chloride is a source of essential electrolytes and maintains osmotic equilibrium. Paromomycin and vancomycin facilitate the recovery of fastidious, obligately anaerobic non-spore-forming gram-negative bacilli from mixed populations by inhibiting facultative and aerobic gram-negative rods.
