Selectively isolate pathogenic Vibrio species with this medium for highly reproducible results.
Selectively isolate pathogenic Vibrio species with InMicro® Dehydrated: TCBS Cholera Medium. The medium has shown to be the most satisfactory and reproducible formula regardless of the complex composition. Unlike Lauryl Sulphate Tellurite Agar it does not require further additives or aseptic additions of blood. It also possesses superior growth characteristics for Vibrio species, compared with tellurite media. While inhibiting non-vibrios, it promotes rapid growth of pathogenic vibrios after overnight incubation at 35°C.
Vibrio is a comma-shaped Gram-negative bacteria. Vibrios are aquatic microorganisms, some species of which cause serious diseases in humans and other animals. Three species of Vibrio are of significance to humans: Vibrio cholerae is the cause of cholera, Vibrio parahemolyticus and V. vulnificus both act as agents of acute enteritis, or bacterial diarrhea.
Use TCBS Cholera Medium for selective isolation of pathogenic vibrios.
The TCBS medium conforms to the formulation of Kobayashi et al., except that it contains specially processed ox bile, free from the defects noted by Nakanishi and Kobayashi.
The TCBS medium is suitable for growth of Vibrio cholerae, Vibrio parahemolyticus, and most other Vibrios. Most Enterobacteriaceae encountered in feces are totally suppressed for at least 24 hours. Slight growth of Proteus species and Enterococcus fecalis may occur but the colonies are easily distinguished from Vibrio colonies.
Manufactured at a cGMP-compliant facility under the ISO 13485 standard, ensuring high-quality manufacturing standards, consistency, and reliability for both research and industrial settings.
