Overview

Detect and enumerate enterococci from water and food samples with InMicro® Dehydrated: Slanetz and Bartley Medium. Slanetz and Bartley originally devised this medium to detect and enumerate enterococci by the technique of membrane filtration, but it has also proved useful as a direct plating medium. The medium is very selective for enterococci and, when it is incubated at elevated temperatures (44-45°C), all red or maroon colonies may be accepted as presumptive enterococci.

The detection and enumeration of enterococci is of primary importance for food hygiene monitoring and microbial quality of water and food.

  • Easy-to-read: due to the reduction of tetrazolium chloride in the medium the enterococci form dark red/ maroon colonies.
  • Selective: sodium azide in the medium is selective against Gram-negative organisms.
