Selectively isolate gram-positive cocci using InMicro® Dehydrated: Phenylethyl Alcohol Agar (PEA).
Selectively isolate gram-positive cocci using InMicro® Dehydrated: Phenylethyl Alcohol Agar. Phenylethyl Alcohol Agar was formulated by Lilley and Brewer to isolate gram-positive cocci such as staphylococci and streptococci from specimens containing mixed flora. Phenylethyl alcohol is bacteriostatic and acts on gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting DNA synthesis. The addition of sheep blood provides many growth factors.
Phenylethyl Alcohol Agar allows the growth of gram-positive organisms and inhibits most gram-negative organisms, especially the swarming of Proteus species.
The medium contains casein peptone which provides nitrogen, carbon, and sulfur nutrients necessary for bacterial growth. Sodium chloride supplies essential electrolytes and maintains the osmotic equilibrium. Phenylethyl alcohol inhibits gram-negative organisms by inhibiting DNA synthesis. Sheep blood is added to the medium to provide many growth factors.
Manufactured at a cGMP-compliant facility under the ISO 13485 standard, ensuring high-quality manufacturing standards, consistency, and reliability for both research and industrial settings.
