InMicro® Dehydrated: Hynes Desoxycholate Citrate Agar is a modified version of the classic
Desoxycholate Citrate Agar, specifically designed for the selective isolation of Salmonella and
Shigella species. This medium contains bile salts that inhibit the growth of Gram-positive
bacteria, promoting the growth of enteric pathogens. It also incorporates citrate, which serves as
a carbon source for the growth of Salmonella and Shigella. The inclusion of neutral red provides
a visual indication of microbial activity, allowing for easy differentiation of bacterial colonies
based on color. This medium is widely used in clinical microbiology to identify foodborne
pathogens and in research labs focused on enteric diseases.
