Ecose™ ITS-A (100X) is a versatile supplement designed to support adherent cell cultures across a wide variety of cell types. Originally developed for use with RPMI 1640 and Minimum Essential Medium (MEM), ITS-A is now commonly utilized with other basal media in the presence of 2 to 4% FBS, enhancing cellular performance. The formulation includes insulin, which promotes glucose and amino acid uptake, lipogenesis, intracellular transport, and the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids. Transferrin, an essential iron carrier, helps reduce toxic levels of oxygen radicals and peroxides, contributing to oxidative stability. Selenite acts as a cofactor for glutathione peroxidase and other proteins, functioning as a potent antioxidant in media. Additionally, sodium pyruvate, a critical precursor for amino acids, fatty acids, and cholesterol, supports numerous biosynthetic pathways essential for cellular metabolism and viability. Together, these components create a nutrient-rich environment ideal for robust and reproducible cell culture outcomes.
