Overview

Neutralize chemical disinfectants to distinguish bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity in environmental sampling procedures using InMicro® Dehydrated: Dey-Engley Neutralizing Agar. This medium was formulated by Engley and Dey in 1970 for neutralizing and testing antiseptics and disinfectants.

Neutralize chemical disinfectants to distinguish bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity in environmental sampling procedures using D/E (Dey-Engley) Neutralizing Agar. The medium can neutralize a range of chemicals including mercurial, iodine or chlorine preparations, quaternary ammonium compounds, formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde.

Easy to Identify:
Bromocresol purple is used as an indicator for the fermentation of dextrose by shifting from purple to yellow at acidic pH.

This medium contains peptone and yeast extract to provide a source of nitrogen, carbon and vitamins. Dextrose provides energy and sodium thiosulfate is incorporated to neutralize chlorine and iodine. Polysorbate 80 neutralizes phenols and formalin. Sodium thioglycolate neutralizes mercurials. Sodium bisulfite neutralizes formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde. Lecithin neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds. This medium is suitable for environmental sampling where neutralization of the chemical is important to determine its bactericidal activity.
