Isolate, differentiate and maintain Mycoplasma species including Mycoplasma pneumoniae with this selective, ready-to-use medium.
Isolate, differentiate and maintain Mycoplasma species including Mycoplasma pneumoniae with InMicro® Prepared: SP4 Glucose Agar (With Thallium Acetate, Penicillin). Glucose in the medium is metabolized by some Mycoplasma spp., including M. pneumoniae, causing the phenol red indicator to change from red to yellow as a results of an acid shift. Penicillin and thallium acetate are selective agents which inhibit many bacteria other than Mycoplasma spp.
Mycoplasma are described as the causative agents of bovine pleuropneumonia. Mycoplasma Spp. are much smaller than most bacteria and distinguished by the lack of a cell wall. Though most are considered commensal microbial flora, a few have become well-established pathogens with the potential for causing infections with serious complications1,2. As these organisms possess an extremely small amount of genetic material, their nutritional requirements for cultivation are very high.
SP4 Glucose Agar (with thallium acetate, penicillin) is a highly nutritious medium for the cultivation of Mycoplasma species including Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
SP4 Glucose Agar (with thallium acetate, penicillin) is a highly nutritious medium due to the addition of beef heart infusion, peptone supplemented with yeast extracts, CMRL 1066 medium, and fetal bovine serum. Yeast extracts supply a variety of B-complex vitamins and enhance growth. Fetal bovine serum provides cholesterol and protein.
Manufactured at a cGMP-compliant facility under the ISO 13485 standard, ensuring high-quality manufacturing standards, consistency, and reliability for both research and industrial settings.
