InMicro® Prepared Salmonella Shigella (SS) Agar is a highly selective medium designed for the isolation and differentiation of Salmonella and Shigella species from stool, food, and water samples. The medium contains bile salts and brilliant green dye to inhibit Gram-positive and many Gram-negative bacteria.
Lactose fermentation is used for differentiation, with non-lactose fermenting colonies appearing as colourless. Sodium thiosulfate and ferric citrate detect hydrogen sulfide production, resulting in black-centered colonies for Salmonella. This medium is essential for diagnostic and food safety laboratories conducting pathogen screening.
